The beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. And the Lord said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the Lord. Hosea 1:2
This is a tall order to give to a man called by the Holy God to deliver His messages. It would take a lot to obey this sort of instruction. But Hosea did.
The bottom line then is the level of trust we have in God to obey Him. However, obeying Him requires learning to hear clearly from Him. Not being sure of the spirit you are hearing from can lead you into trouble rather than glory.
As a Christian, part of the important training you must go through is to learn how God speaks to you. It is important that we learn this. One of the ways to learn this is by testing every instruction against the word of God. We should also pray to God for confirmation from His word. He will show us. But probably the most powerful way to establish that God is the one speaking is by His peace which is beyond measure being in our heart. That cannot be denied.
If you are not hearing His voice, you won’t have that settled peace in your spirit. Even you will know in your heart of hearts that you are doing what you want and not what He said. I assure you that you will know.
So, when you are speaking to yourself to do something that is clearly not scriptural, put it through these tests. Even when you are a seemingly mature Christian, the Bible enjoins us to test all spirits if they be of God. That is crucial.
Coming back to Hosea and his wife, God is merely using his family situation to demonstrate His own relationship with the descendants of Israel. Marrying a wife of whoredom should be obvious as to what she would likely do. It is a figure of God’s marriage to the people of Israel, which had been full of unfaithfulness due to their tendencies towards idolatory.
With Ezekiel and Daniel, they were presented mostly as visions; but with Hosea, we are seeing actual lived experiences. So, God decides how He wants to communicate with His people. Your alertness to understand how He communicates with you is thus crucial.
To develop this grace, you need to take the first step of accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and person Saviour. When you understand this clear message and act on it, then you can learn and develop how He speaks to you in clear terms.
May this day bring you closer to learning of His immeasurable love for you and His protection for you in the market place.
