The said I, Ah Lord God! behold, my soul hath not been polluted: for from my youth up even till now have I not eaten of that which dieth of itself, or is torn in pieces; neither came there abominable flesh into my mouth.
Ezekiel 4:14

Now what is striking here is that when God was giving instructions about how he would symbolise the punishment of Jerusalem, Ezekiel had one point of objection. He objected to defiling himself as part of that process.

And what many of us would find surprising is that instead of God getting offended, He modified the instructions and asked Ezekiel to replace human dung with cow dung as part of the materials he would use.

This tells us that the impression of the constantly cane-bearing God may actually be rooted only in our imagination. Isaiah told us about coming to reason with God (Isaiah 1:18). This proves again this fact that God would reason with you if you have compelling reasons and could convince Him of your own perspective of the matter.

Hezekiah used this well and he got additional years rather than dying after He convinced God that he was still needed on earth to continue to serve and praise him. At least, he had the privilege of knowing when he was going to die. Not many people do. And it tells you that important detail that serving God sincerely brings such privileges.

So, the key takeaway here is that if we would be obedient to God’s instructions, we would be able to reason with Him about what we felt requires His adjustments. When our reasoning is sound and not flesh satisfying, who says He would not listen. He is a loving Father and cares more about your wellbeing than you imagine.

However, it starts from even having the privilege of being His child first. That first obedience means accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. That is where it all starts.
