And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.
Jeremiah 45:5
This promise is to one man. I think it is also for all. It is good to have an ambition. However, it is better to have a vision. A vision will align with God’s plan and purpose for you and for your community, which may be small or big. However, here God told Baruch to calm down.
God has already sent judgement to all the people and they have compounded their situation with further disobedience. Nonetheless, God spoke to this man, who had been serving Jeremiah faithfully as his secretary. A word came for him too. God told him to not have a high ambition but focus on the assignment and vision given to him.
He told him clearly that in the midst of the chaos and destruction, He would spare his life. So, faithfully serving God means He looks out for us.
Focusing on God’s plan is the smartest choice. Our plans may sound good; after all, He gave us the mind and brain to think. However, submitting our thoughts and ambition to His clearance ensures that we do not go wrong. So, when destruction is everywhere, God’s assurances to us is that He will protect His own once they are in alignment with Him, no matter their location.
So, let’s do well and fall in line with His plan and purpose so that we can get all the support that we need.
But much more, let’s humble ourselves to follow His main plan for our salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour. Thank you, Jesus.
