They are not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in my law, nor in my statutes, that I set before you and before your fathers.

The stubbornness of these people is legendary. Even when confronted with God’s judgement, they remained stubborn and unrepentant. They were even attributing their suffering to their stopping their evil practices; as if they ever did.
This is what worries me about the new found god of Nigerians: mammon. However, I always wonder if this was the case all this while or just that the awareness had always been little due to the low exposure to information sharing previously. Or was it that something went wrong with us as a people and we have thrown caution to the winds and seek for money by all and AY means?
The reality though is that I also know many Nigerians trying in their little corner to provide for their families legitimately. My only worry is the extent that poverty has been so weaponised by the political class that even honest people are falling easy prey to their sweet talk to sear their conscience.
I knew many people from the part of Nigeria where I grew that would ask if you are feeding them when you ask them to compromise their self respect and dignity. Their respect for their self-worth and dignity was legendary. For this reason, bringing to them things that could corrupt them was seen more as an insult than anything else. However, these days, when I see people that their heads should be set on their shoulders and properly facing their fronts excusing nonsense in the name of ethnic loyalty or the power of Naira, I feel like puking.
These are not the values we were brought up with. Where did those values disappear to? What happened to us? Do we even know what we are talking about when we spew those things in front of the camera or our keypad? May the Lord have mercy on us.
Hope isn’t lost though. We can retrace our steps and do good.
Let’s start by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour. He will cleanse us from the filthiness of the past. We can then cleanse our land of its corrupting filth by the power of the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
