Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there.
Jeremiah 43:2

We continue our train of thought from yesterday.

These people were described as “all the proud men”. It is takes someone with senseless pride to say they would obey whatever God tells them to do to turn around to accuse the prophet that they asked to pray and ask God for directions for them that he was lying. It doesn’t make any sense at all!

Jeremiah didn’t reach out to them. They came to him to ask him to pray to inquire of God what they should do. However, from their response, it is obvious that they already made up their minds on what to do. They were only mocking God by making any inquiry at all.

Is in any surprise that Jeremiah couldn’t get a response from God until 10 days after he went to pray? God knows their heart. He knew they were only toying with Jeremiah. He knew that they had no intention of obeying any answers and instructions from God that he would give them. Those guys already had their minds made up. They were only trying to fulfill all righteousness. So they left for Egypt.

Indeed, many of us do this, like we mentioned yesterday. But this doesn’t have to be the case. We can do better. We just need the experience of allowing ourselves to take the first step by accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour. That is where we start from.

Jesus is Lord!
