I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.
Jeremiah 27:5

Very interesting scenario that we have to consider this morning.

First, God asked Jeremiah to make bonds and stocks for himself as a demonstration of what was coming to the leaders in Judah and all the other nations around that their words were sent earlier. They were advised to submit to the Chaldeans because it was of the Lord.

However, God went further to remind them that the earth and every treasure in it are His and He could give it to anyone He likes at any point in time.

I am sure they would have been thinking in their minds: These Chaldeans are sinners and idolaters. Why would God use them to punish us?

But God assured them that when the time of the Chaldeans was full, they too would receive their due punishment. And why? because they wouldn’t learn from the mistakes of the nations they captured in order to repent of their ways.

Was it any surprise that Nebuchadnezzar became a proud king and got an instant judgement from God?

Indeed, that is the sad truth about all of us. We become proud of ourselves and choose to forget that we are on a rental on the earth, no matter how much property we have acquired with that wealth that we forgot was God’s mercy to us in the first place.

Let’s wake up and acknowledge the totality of God’s dominance on our lives. He holds our breath. We should be humble enough to always acknowledge that.
