Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work.
Jeremiah 22:13

This scripture made me to pause this morning. It caused me to reflect deeply. It is about a king of Judah who used free labour through oppression. But it also spoke to me about how we pursue free things. Some of us have a mindset for only free things. We would rather look for a way to sabotage someone’s efforts and labour to advance their economic life while trying to improve ours by not paying for their service or product.

I once paid serious money for a service because to it was the right thing to do. It was a seed I was sowing. When I also put my business out there, I expect those that need it to think first of how to support my business growth rather than how to cheat me out of my legitimate remuneration from my efforts.

While it is okay to start from the place of free usage when available, it is better to also pay for those services we found useful when we scale. What we also forget is that the free instrument also comes with vulnerabilities in this digital age. As soon as we can, we should pay for the service we need. The free version is meant for test running. Soon as we can, we should scale our support for the owner of the product we found useful by also paying for it. This also improves our secure use of the tool, especially, a digital one. The responsibility to keep us secure in using it is that of the creator of the tool when we put in our money to support their efforts.

In the same vein, we should not use genuine labour for free nor waste the time of our employers. We should give due reward to the effort of our diligent and faithful staff while we should give due quality of service to our employers.

We should never forget that what we sow is what we reap. If we are not yet able to pay for additional hands in our business, let us continue to work on our own until we can. If we employ someone, we should pay them, even if they are our children or relatives.

If we are working for someone, we should give them our loyalty and support. It is key that when we receive our wages, we should be able to confidently say that we earned it.

This is the only way God can bless us.

In all, we should not forget that the foundation for all these lie in our accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour.

If you are yet to have this experience, comment ‘salvation’ and I will be glad to tell you how to advance in this experience.

God bless you!
