O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this porter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the porter’s hand, so are you in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Jeremiah 18:6
If we don’t understand this simple concept that God holds our lives and is able to mould it to His will, we will become rebellious. The truth is that God is our maker. He determines how it goes with us. However, the simple trigger is how much we submit to His will and are obedient to His words.
He notes first before that if He had pronounced evil against a nation due to their sins but they repent and change their ways, He would forgive them and retract that judgement against them (Jeremiah 18:8).
Secondly, He pronounces that if a nation was promised prosperity but that nation became unruly, proud and disobedient, He has the right to retract that goodness and stop that prosperity from reaching that nation (Jeremiah 18:10).
What the above tells us is that we are the determiners of how God treats us. When we are good and obedient, He prospers our ways. When we are full of ourselves and decide to be disobedient, He looks at us and leaves us to our devices. So, eventually, we are the ones that make our choices.
He advised us to choose life by choosing right. Nonetheless, He leaves us to make our own choice. God doesn’t force anyone.
So, if you presently groan under the consequences of your choice or are smiling because you made the right choice, you should live with it. We are moral agents; we should be courageous enough to face our choices.
Nevertheless, when you choose to change from that negative and disobedient person and correct your ways, you will enjoy the benefit of His child. This status requires that you accept Him as your Lord and personal Saviour and live the life that fits that bill.
