But this one thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
Jeremiah 7:23
When King David sang that it is only one thing He desired, it looked like only him had one desire. However, today’s scriptural highlight showed us that at the core of God’s law is that one desire that we obey His voice and walk in His ways which He had commanded. Funnily enough, this is also the one thing we find difficult to obey as His creatures, followers or children, depending on which category you belong right now.
Following God’s commandments had remained our greatest challenge and weakness as humans as proven from the drama in the Garden of Eden. However, God also made it easy for us through giving Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary as our one way out.
As stubborn as we always are, many look at this act of mercy as being too simple to accept as their way out. They look for long and winding religious acts to satisfy their desires to please the God they don’t know is so near them. Intellectual search will not satisfy that need. A heart and spirit search will lead you faster. That means you accepting His simple solution rather than trying to complicate the solution in order to satisfy that urge in yourself.
I have an anecdote related to this. My students will look at a simple question I set for them and start giving very complicated responses. Sincerely, my thinking of helping them by asking them simple questions, though requiring them to think to find the answers, which answers are actually simple, usually make me wonder. However, it is what it is 😃
So, God provided this simple solution: Just say ‘I do’ to the Lord Jesus who is constantly knocking at the door of your heart (Revelation 3:20) and you are good to go. Accept Him today as your Lord and personal Saviour, obey His voice and walk to please Him. That is all it takes!
Comment ‘obey’ and I will be glad to walk you through.
