Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
Jeremiah 6:16 (KJV)
Don’t go out to the fields! Don’t travel the roads! For the enemy is everywhere, ready to kill; we are terrorized at every turn.
Jeremiah 6:25 (TLB)
If you are familiar with my posts here, I am sure that you are familiar by now with my mantra on how our choices lead to grave consequences. Your choice determine what you see.
Even though God will show you the way to go, as a free moral agent, you have every right to determine which path you take. He will advise you on the right path that is best for your interest but leave you to decide to follow it or not. God does not force anyone. Therefore, you are absolutely responsible for the outcome of your life! (to paraphrase Bishop David Oyedepo)
Let’s look at the two scriptures above to demonstrate the point we are making here.
In the first scripture, God advises Jerusalem to find out about the ancient pathways of its ancestors that gave them peace and prosperity. However, it said ‘no’; it didn’t want old pathways, it preferred to create its own ways. Anyway, if you have read enough of your Bible, you should know by now that there is a way that seems right to one which the end could be destruction (Proverbs 16:25).
So, it is not surprising that as the narration progressed, the consequences of Israel’s choices are clearly seen. By the time we got to verse 25, total chaos was reigning.
You may wish to know that the picture created by that verse that struck me clearly is exactly what is happening in Nigeria today. Once we clamoured for an extremist to become president and rejected a man of peace that God sent our way despite repeated warnings about the consequences of the resulting violence from those who God showed ahead of time, what else should we expect? Even more than 12 years down the line, they have not shed enough blood.
They are now terrorising citizens everywhere, so much that people could no longer go to their farms without either being killed or abducted. The roads have become their playfield for kidnappings.
They even storm homes to kidnap while the government seems helpless and unable to protect its citizens, which is its primary duty as a government, if it deserves that name. Or the government itself is busy making politics of it rather than solving it. The politicians are also busy and engrossed in the preparation for the next general elections and the power they need to grab rather than serving the citizens.
In short, the whole point is that they have grabbed the heart and soul of the country and are busy squeezing it hard.
Despite all these, you still have the opportunity to make your choice. God’s covering is for those that will make the right choice in the midst of this mayhem and stand on His truth. We discussed that extensively yesterday. You can check it out.
Choose today to walk in the old pathways and God will still lead you to your peace in the midst of the terror overshadowing the land. All you need to do is to repent of your sins and accept the Lord Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour! It is that simple; it is the only and surest way.
Comment ‘ancient pathways’ and I will be glad to lead you through.
Jesus is Lord!
