[4] Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.
[5] Is not this the fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the Lord?
[6] Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
Isaiah 4-6
So, let’s talk about our most pious activity — fasting.
When it comes to fasting, many of us are very pious. We show how righteous we are. How self-controlled we are. Some people even turn fasting into a great show of their level of attaining great spiritual heights. Some turn it into showing their level of piety that has taken them to climb their high horse of spiritual superiority.
All of these are fine. However, have you asked your self what the Lord really accepts. It is nice to do the religious things. That makes you feel good about yourself. You can rank yourself as having gone higher in ranking than the ordinary folks like us. This is also a okay because it makes you feel good.
However, weighed in the scale of the Lord, religious activities are mere, dirty rags that do not worth anything before Him except done with the matching spiritual sense of responsibility and meekness.
The hardest part of being spiritual is actually the meekness part. To be teachable in spirit is a really humbling experience. And I do not mean that pretentious look of being pious and clasping your hands in front of you as if you won’t hurt a fly while your heart is scheming murder. Being meek is being teachable. Some may even think that you are a fool for lowering yourself because you are supposed to be ‘big’.
The question is: What bigness can you attain without God’s permission? If He takes away your breath right now, will your bigness still matter?
Our focus should remain in living by God’s standards and not ours. So, let’s aspire for true spirituality and not religiosity. There is a world of difference between the two.

The bottom line is: Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour and live by His standards and leadings only and you can never go wrong.
Have a great day, family!
