They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off. Hosea 8:4
The love for money in this generation is not a new thing. Their forebears loved money and turned it into gods.
This scripture described how Israel became soaked in idolatry because of their focus on gold and silver. Their focus was so total that these became their idols.
It is always easy to accuse the ancient people of being too gullible and easy to manipulate to do the things they did. Even some of us will say if they were there, they wouldn’t have been part of those who crucified Jesus Christ even though they do the exact same thing every day.
They reject His love and sacrifice by refusing to take the most important step of their life by accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and personal Saviour. They crucify Him all over again by refusing to live a life worthy of His sacrifice when they sin and think nothing of it. These and more are done by modern people who assume they wouldn’t have been part of the crowd shouting ‘Crucify Him! Crucify Him!’ to Pontius Pilate if they had been there that day.
These same people are those that would lie, cheat and change weights because of money. The new gods they serve are made of silver and gold. There is nothing they would not do to show their devotion. However, they forget that the Almighty God is a God of knowledge and He knows those who are His.
When they do yahoo-yahoo to make their money and bring it to buy God, they forget that He is not for sale. When they do all manner of shady boardroom acts to get to a position they don’t deserve for money and power, then come to dance and give thanksgiving offering and fake testimony, they forget He that searches the heart and the reigns, thereby seeing everything.
But the easiest way out of all these and to stand clean and acceptable before the only true God is to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. I offer that way to you once again this morning. No other god and thing deserves your devotion: only the El Shaddai does. Serve Him and know peace. He is accessible by your acceptance of the way of salvation He has made available to you through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Jesus loves you.
May His love find and envelope you today and always in Jesus name. Amen.
