And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaking fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves. Daniel 10:7
Interesting lessons to learn in this chapter of the book of Daniel.
The first one stares us in the face in verse 1. We note that this is probably the fourth or so king Daniel would be serving in their government since he was stolen away from Judah. For a person to be relevant in so many governments says something about his person. However, we have seen the trajectory of his operations in these governments: he was definitely not a bootlicker. He was as direct and plain in his approach as any could be. He operated in the fear of God. So, he was filled with the wisdom of God. This is the baseline.
I know. Your next thought is why wouldn’t your own politicians learn this rather than being bootlickers and making poor excuses for a useless government they are serving in or want to serve in just to get crumbs. If you think a leader doesn’t know those who will do right and retain them in their government for being righteous, you have another think coming. But self serving governments won’t anyway.
The next thing you will want to learn from Daniel is his prayer regime. He proclaimed that he was in a fasting programme for three weeks. You will recall that because he was a reader of scriptures, he learnt a lot of things about his people that motivated the fasting. He went into serous fasting and prayers. This is what led to his receiving a vision of what would happen to his people in the last days and getting the interpretation of the same.
Ask yourself this question: how many of your politicians care enough about the people they are leading to the point of setting aside a whole three weeks of fasting to ask God about how to help them? If they do, I doubt if Nigeria will be the way it is. Instead, what we have is people celebrating 100 or 700 days of not adding any value to the life of the citizens, who bear the brunt of their misrule in their governments.
The next point I will like us to notice is that when he received the vision, those around him could not see it. This is reminiscent of Apostle Paul’s encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ on his way to Damascus. The fact that people around you cannot see what you see does not mean that you are not seeing the vision or what God is revealing to you. If they are relevant to your vision’s fulfilment, continue to show them what to do and guide them to understand how they can work with you to make it real.
Finally, you will notice that the response to Daniel’s prayers were contended with by his people’s enemies. For three weeks, the angel bringing his answer was challenged by other spiritual princes fighting against the destiny of his people. However, because he persevered in his prayers, his answer eventually came. This speaks to the fact that you cannot afford to give up on your country. No matter the challenges you think or are actually facing now, giving up won’t bring the solution. Asking God for the way out will.
And if you are privileged to serve in one government space or the other, do that which a righteous child of God would do if truly connected to God.
Nonetheless, the first step to having the privilege of being called a child of God is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. There is no other way.
This is a new week.
I pray that the fear of the Lord will guide your every move this week. I pray that His favour will reward every way you show your reverence to His name and Kingdom in the market place this week in Jesus name.
Happy New Week, folks!
Jesus is Lord.
