But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these.

Daniel 2:28

This chapter is an interesting one. It opened with king Nebuchadnezzar dreaming and demanding that his court officials tell him his dream. Despite their attempt to persuade him to tell them the dream so they could interpret it through their magic, he insisted that because he had forgotten his dream, they had to tell him the dream and interpret it.

Even when they tried to appeal to his logic that no one could tell the dream another person dreamed, he accused them of stalling for time. He then ordered that every wise man in Babylon be killed.

Now, imagine that you got to work tomorrow morning and your boss told you s/he had a dream that troubled them the night before and you should tell them the dream and the meaning.

I am sure that if s/he didn’t ask you to resign because you could not, you will because it would be clear to you it was just an excuse to fire you.

So, imagine the threat to the life of these people because of this unreasonable king. But if you know anything about God by now, it should be that He creates opportunity for His people to shine brightest in the midst of deep darkness. Those that understand this always grab the opportunity with both hands rather than accusing Him of endangering them.

Therefore, Daniel knew that his promotion along with his three companions to the government position of honour due to their display of God’s wisdom should not mean he should perish with the Chaldeans. It was God’s way of showing His power and glory in the strange land where they found themselves. He did what a wise person who has had an encounter with God would do: he asked to be given some days to go ask the only One who can reveal secrets, even those hidden in the dream of a human being.

He told his three companions and they went into prayers. Of course, God showed Daniel the dream and the interpretation. And he too did the wisest thing that someone whose life had been spared by God would do: He gave glory and honour to God in deep thanksgiving and public testimony. That is what brought us to the scripture of focus today.

Two things:

God is the only source of secrets’ revelation. The Bible clearly declared that secret things belong to God and those He chooses to reveal them to (Deuteronomy 29:29). Even that deep secret in your heart: God knows it. You can’t hide it from Him. Consequently, the wise thing is to go to Him in repentance where you think you had been fooling Him. You are ABSOLUTELY naked before Him. If you don’t know that before, know it today. Nothing is hidden before the Lord.

The second thing is that God can reveal to you hidden things. Being sensitive in the spirit is a gift. I am aware that God granted me the spirit of discernment very early in my Christian walk. It is thus not a surprise that many people that have no idea used to assume it is witchcraft. It is not. It is simply God’s Holy Spirit in action. You can develop this grace by walking with Him in reverence and total obedience when He spoke to your spirit.

In totality, the most beautiful part is the way Daniel acknowledged God as the only source of this revelation. Indeed, no human being could do this. Even the magicians of Babylon acknowledged this. They were only wrong in saying that no one could access the secret of the king. Those that walk with God in righteousness would get any secret that God chooses to show to them (Amos 3:3,7). So, are you His friend yet? That could be where you come in.

The only access to this exalted walk is through the salvation of your soul. You can only experience this close walk with God by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. He takes the glory in your life through walking in righteousness with Him. He makes you shine in the midst of darkness. Trust Him and the process; it will be to His glory and the advancement of His Kingdom eventually.

Jesus is Lord!
