Therefore, thus saith the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height.
Ezekiel 31:10
What follows this verse is a series of unpleasant events for the Assyrian cedar. The Bible says that pride goes before a fall. It also notes that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. All through scriptures, we continue to see guys that destruction follows their bad behaviours when they become full of themselves and begin to raise their shoulders, as we say in Nigeria.
Sincerely, the image here created by Ezekiel was that of the Assyrian cedar lifting its shoulders literally because it was lifting its boughs in pride; so much that even the trees in the garden of God envied it. Indeed, pride is one of the easiest sins to commit and also the easiest way to offend God.
Of course, it was handed over to those who would bring down those shoulders. It lost all its beauty and glory and was abandoned by those whose praise had made it arrogant.
But this doesn’t have to be you. You need to learn humility so you will never cross God. True humility starts from accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. Once you do, you begin to walk in righteousness to please Him all your days, including by bringing others to the knowledge of the only true God.
May you not use your hand to draw God’s wrath to yourself through pride and arrogance in Jesus name. Amen.
Jesus loves you!
