Lamenting the Nigerian Princes

Moreover take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel.
Ezekiel 19:1

Yesterday, we had an interfaith religious gathering in honour of the Bursar of National Open University of Nigeria on campus at the NOUN HQ. He was murdered on Sunday by armed bandits on his way back from visiting his family in Gusau. It was a period of heavy heart, outpouring of grief and sadness.

Someone was said that the gathering shows that Nigerians can live together in peace and be one another brother’s/sister’s. I had to comment to a friend beside me that Nigerians had always been able to live together in peace. Our problem was always the politicians.

Until 2023, no one knew it was a crime to be an Igbo business person in Lagos. The politicians started using religion to murder southerners from the 60s when they reside in the North. No one would think it is the same different religions being practised there that one grew up with in Ibadan where children celebrated both the Christian and Moslem festivals without drawing the line or being aware of the differences. But these two things have become important points of differences now that even when appointments were made within the university system, you think of these factors being the major influences there rather than the person’s competence. And a university CEO that doesn’t consider this in major appointments may have a problem.

Sincerely, like the princes of Israel, it may be time enough to start lamenting what the politicians have done to destroy the essence of being Nigerian. The things that should have become the factors of consideration have taken the back bench in our relationships with one another, no thanks to the corrupt and greedy political class, which would rather sell Nigeria’s soul for gain than for its advancement in critical infrastructure and human development.

But there is always a way out. Let’s go back to the basics.

Are you saved? If not, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour today.

We can then lock hands and faith together to rescue our country from their evil grip. That could move us to the status of a nation by God’s help.

Jesus is Lord!

May the Lord find you and me worthy today as instruments of rescue for our dear country, Nigeria, as we do all that is needed to save her from the grip of the wicked in Jesus name. Amen.
