Unmasking False Prophets

They have envisioned futility and false divination, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord!’ But the Lord has not sent them; yet they hope that the word may be confirmed.
Ezekiel 13:6

Personally, what I found most scary is saying something God has not said and being condemned for it in His Court.

I remember once, as a very young Christian, very new in the faith and still growing, yet to fully understand when God speaks to one in clear terms. I was praying generally for couples desiring for the fruit of the womb during my morning devotion. God spoke to me about a couple we were in church together to go tell them that He had heard their prayers and that their son was on the way. I was like: What?

I was troubled about this for a long time. Of course, my worry was my self-esteem. What if I told them and gave them hope and nothing happened. As if I was God that would make the woman pregnant!

Sincerely, I didn’t know that this particular couple were waiting on the Lord for a child because there was a young boy staying with them, whom I considered their son. So, I was like, was God mistaken? This I dared not to say out as I knew He was never wrong. Moreover, this couple, especially, the husband whom we were in the Anglican Youth Fellowship with was always smiling.

Nonetheless, I took courage and went to tell them what God told me. I insisted on speaking to them as a couple. I made it clear to them that this is what the Lord told me to tell them. I had done my part. They thanked and appreciated the word from the Lord. I left and told God that ṣebi I could have my peace of mind now that I had delivered His message. He metaphorically patted my head and told me I had done well.

When some months later, we could see the woman pregnant and a baby boy was born to this couple, the rest as they say was history.

The reason I gave this long story was because people now commercialise this sort of grace and spin tales of what God did not send them to say. The Bible made it clear that whenever God says, it is because God would confirm what He said. When this does not happen, it is a sign for the sensitive that God never said.

Now in this chapter that we are discussing today, God clearly showed His displeasure for this sort of behaviour and the subsequent punishment for it. We should also learn to read our Bible and open our hearts to the Spirit of God so that we are not misled by false prophets.

However, you gain this grace from accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. Have you? If not, this is another opportunity for you to do so.

May His grace and mercy uphold you today as you receive His love and walk in His Spirit throughout today in Jesus name.

Jesus is Lord!
