Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee; and have not discovered thine iniquity, to turn away thy captivity; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment.

Lamentations 2:14

The truth is that we need to learn to read the Bible ourselves. If you have a religious reference text and you refuse to read it and let the Holy Ghost interpret it for you to live by God’s standards, you will likely do what men tell you is in there.

Here, the lamentation of Jerusalem is about being misled by their prophets because they were seeing what the people wanted to see and telling the people what they wanted to hear. That is not the way to be kind to people. Greater kindness is telling them the real truth, whether they like it or not. Eventually, they will come to appreciate that kindness.

I do hope you will see that love involves being truthful to your loved ones. It doesn’t mean you should not say that truth with love. However, it doesn’t mean you should also say it with malicious intent. It means letting them know what is true and encouraging them to face it with courage.

Having said this much, how do you think we access this grace? By accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Saviour. That enables us to love with grace, and the words we speak thus get seasoned with love and compassion. Will you take that step today?

Jesus is Lord!
