Then I said, I will not make mention of Him, nor speak any more in His name. But His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
Jeremiah 20:9
When God gives you an assignment to do, who are you to say ‘no’? Those that have tried it in the past always found that they could not escape. It is either they carry it out under compulsion or they get punished for disobedience. I think it is better to do it willingly and be rewarded with great rewards from God. We all know that there is no denial of due reward with God; when you do His will, He rewards handsomely (1 Corinthians 2:9). God does not owe anyone.
This is why I can understand all that Jeremiah was going through here. He was angry that because He was prophesying to Israel and Judah by telling them what God planned to do to them if they didn’t repent, they ganged up to un-alive him. So, their threats became the reason he wanted to stop doing his assignment. This is something we see people doing a lot, out of frustration.
However, when he tried to do this foolish thing, God just ignored him. The messages he was to deliver became a compulsive force he could not deny. He had no choice than to go back and face that assignment squarely.
That may be your situation right now. You probably were busy running away from God’s assignment on your life. Know that it is what your prosperity, peace and progress is tied to.
I told God’s people basically the same thing when I was privileged to give the exhortation at the NOUN Christian Fellowship (NCF) yesterday. What you need is to do your part and let God do the rest. You must give an account of your life on the last day. Why would you allow others to derail your destiny now, displease God and then still face God’s judgement when you stand before His throne on the last day?
This compulsion on Jeremiah is God’s mercy. If you have missed your way, quickly retrace your steps and do your assignment before God would hand it over to a more willing child of His. Be sure that there are hundreds of better people ready to replace you.
That should humble you and me, I think.
Let God do His thing after you have done yours. He is the master Architect and He knows the end from the beginning. Let your little piece in the puzzle fit in perfectly so you that your place is not taken away from you due to carelessness.
However, the start of the journey is for you to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. That is the only way to even have any space in the puzzle in the first place. Know that Jesus loves you. That is also a privilege you shouldn’t take for granted.
Have a great day.
Jesus is Lord!
