THIS MARKET PLACE OF OURS

by Dele Adeyanju

“All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled’’

This market place of ours parades unlimited opportunities for mortals to strive and win laurels

This space of endless agitations and contentions is a platform for trade and commerce

However, this marvellous gift bestowed on mankind by the creator is a theatre of war

The market place is simply a market place where transactions are made, not a home

The market place provides no accommodation for marketers to pass a night after their transactions

All must go home to count their gains and losses, and to account for the investments made

All must leave the market place with whatever returns made from their investments

“All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled’’

This market place of ours engages mankind with all manner of money-making activities

Some market in goods, others in services; some are in the knowledge industry, others in politics

Some are called professionals; others are career folks, technocrats and private business men

Some trade in legitimate items, others in human parts and the business of kidnap for ransom

Whatever be your career, trade or profession, we are all marketing to make ends meet

In this market place, we try to outsmart one another in a rigorous life-threatening contest

In the process, we insult and assault fellow marketers to gain economic advantage

“All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled’’

This market place of ours parades all manner of people: the good and the bad; the candid and the crafty

The arrogant and the humble; the debased and the refined; the wise and the foolish

All fighting and fronting for relevance and visibility in a market that will soon close down

Some marketers make so much ‘’gains’’ in terms of money, materials, influence and relevance

But they hardly stay to enjoy the proceeds of their labour before returning home

This funny place of marketing where some simply labour for others to harvest

Calls for consciousness of the imminence of the homeward journey of all marketers

May our marketing here not jeopardise our expected blissful eternity

Happy New Month
