[4] For since the beginning of the world men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen, O God, beside thee, what He hath prepared for him that waiteth for Him.
[6] But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
Isaiah 64:4&6
God have great things prepared for those that are ready to wait on Him for their salvation, deliverance and testimonies. This promise is repeated in 1 Corinthians 2:9 as those who love Him. Indeed, it takes true love to wait for the one that you truly love.
Nonetheless, our predilection towards self love usually stands in our way. We tend to think that because in our mind or through the mouths of those around when we were told that we are good means that we are. Unfortunately, it makes us feel pompous and too good in our own eyes.
If we don’t measure our goodness through the eyes of God but ours, it is called self-righteousness. No one wins before God through self-righteousness. Only He can pass the judgment of our goodness.
Nonetheless, He has given us the standard of His word by which we can measure. Not only that, we can also check the motivation for what we are doing by the help of the Holy Spirit. His help enables us to measure our lives against the standard of God’s word. Otherwise we can be doing a great thing in our own eyes, which may not be approved of God. That one is a real waste of time, energy and resources. However, when the Holy Spirit gives us the peace of God and our ultimate goal is to please God and not feed our ego, then we will see His mercy speak to our needs and His Spirit give us peace.
Waiting on Him is a grace that brings immeasurable reward for our love. When this happens, God’s promises truly become ‘yeah and amen’ in our lives.
