THE POWER OF ‘’I’M SORRY’’

by Dele Adeyanju

Let your speech be… with grace, seasoned with salt….

Though it sounds ordinary and commonplace, ‘sorry’ wields enormous power

Power to heal, to build, to restore, and to conquer, is resident with the word, ‘’sorry’’

Though often taken for granted, sincere ‘’sorry ‘’ holds the key to peace in a crisis situation

Though it sounds simplistic ‘’I’m sorry’’ portrays a person’s strength of character

‘’Sorry’’ is not a sign of weakness, but a proof of humility, a token of maturity

‘’Sorry’’ is not just an apologetic expression, it’s a healer of broken relationships

‘’Sorry’’ is not simply a greeting ritual, it’s a builder of homes, industries and institutions

Sincere ‘’sorry’’ has the potency to conquer the strongest of all minds and avert troubles

It restores lost trust, strained friendship, broken relationship, and stolen confidence

Absence of the word, ‘’sorry’’ where it is warranted is an invitation to emotional disconnect

Its absence when needed gives room to ego, heralds frustration and erodes trust

‘’Sorry’’ comes with the Ministry of Reconciliation – heralding peace with God and man

Reconciliation between man and God, and reconciliation among fellow men

Reconciliation itself is a panacea for peace without which relationships are destroyed

But ‘’I’m sorry’’ is alien to the mouth of an arrogant, ‘’always right’’, self-opinionated person

A person who with impunity has sacrificed the values of apology on the altar of ego

A person ready to damn the consequences of unhealthy relationship with God and man

‘’I’m sorry’’, an antidote to prolong conflicts is a desideratum for peace and progress

Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and health to the bones…

May we be magnanimous enough to say ‘’I’m sorry’’ whenever it is necessary

Happy New Month!
