Introduction
The core purpose of prayer is to empower the saints for triumphant living. Luke 10:19, empowerment is for the purpose of living a hurt free life on the earth. The foremost purpose of empowerment is to serve God and the interest of His Kingdom. Acts 1:8, we are not empowered for show but to serve. Zechariah 7:5, the fasting that procures power is that meant to serve and not to the self.
Empowerment is in levels and categories. This is also determined by the level of power which results to manifestations. To change level in power is facilitated through fasting. Ezekiel 47:1-5, these are various dimensions of power. It is the various dimension of power we experience that determines our manifestations. Psalms 110:1-3, we are in the last days, which are the days of His power. It is thus important to upgrade our power level in this season.
Prayer and fasting is for our benefit. These benefits are derived from Isaiah 58:6-14.
Benefits in Prayer and Fasting
- it is the outbreak of the anointing. Isaiah 58:6; 10:27. It takes the anointing to break the yoke; and the anointing is obtained through fasting and prayer. Luke 4:14, power is costly; there is always a cost to pay for power. Ephesians 1:18-20, if we are going to be empowered, there is a cost to pay. Power is available to every child of God but there is a cost to pay. Psalm 66:3, satan respects only power. It takes power to exercise practical dominion.
- It is the outbreak of the spirit of love. Isaiah 58:7, fasting takes us out of living for ourselves to love others, Acts 4:32, it brings us to the place of love and compassion for the brethren. 1 John 3:17,18. Love is demonstrated in caring for others. Romans 8:28; 1 Corinthians 2:9, a lover of God must end as a wonder to their world. Romans 5:5; Ephesians 3:17-19, when rooted in love, they are filled with God, 1 John 4:16. Prayer and fasting is not just about asking but a platform for transformation through love.
- Outbreak of the spirit of revelation, Isaiah 58:8. Revelation is a spiritual currency that can give you what you can see. Genesis 13:13-15, what you see determines what you can take. Our revelation is at the mercy of our engagement in fasting and prayer, 1 Corinthians 4:4. Eyes which are spiritually open are more valuable. Romans 12:2, revelation is transformative. Matthew 17:21, there are things you won’t see until you engage in prayers and fasting.
- Outbreak of health and vitality, Isaiah 58:8, revelation brings us health and vitality. Job 33:21-24, restoration of health and vitality is a benefit of fasting and prayers through revelation. Every question of life and answers of life are in the Bible but it is only available to us when we are able to see, Psalm 107:20. Sight does not respect size. We must be determined not just to search but to see. The issues of life respect sight and not just knowledge, Jeremiah 1:11.
- Outbreak of answers, Isaiah 58:9. Speedy answer is one of the benefits of fasting and prayer. This is facilitated when we make the Kingdom the centre of our attention. Let our prayer season be centred on the advancement of the Kingdom.
- Clarity of divine guidance, Isaiah 58:11. When a person is guided by God, you end up being outstanding in the world. You don’t live life by your own wisdom. Proverbs 3:5; 14:12, it is not difficult to miss the road but when you do, you cannot achieve God’s purpose for life. Prayer and fasting helps us to be sensitive to the spirit, Jeremiah 1:12. We need Him to know what to do and the steps to take.
- Outbreak of the supernatural. Miracles and wonders begin to happen.
- Outbreak of the spirit of wisdom, Proverbs 4:7. Wisdom is about knowing what to do about the situation of life. John 6:6, when you know what you to do, you don’t cry like others do. This is what fasting and prayers opens us up to.
- Supernatural breakthroughs answers to us in fasting and prayers, Isaiah 58:12,14. As we engage in fasting and prayers, we see breakthroughs everywhere. There must be pursuit of light every day. It must be a counting of encounters through this fasting season.
