In Praise of a Presidential Pardon…

In the days of the powers of his Excellency,

in that very land of the uncanny –

that land where the most bizarre is the order of the day,

there, their Lord decided to show the glory of his power

to forgive the criminals in the land.

…don’t humans always dissimulate,

asking the aggrieved

to forgive and forget as if it was possible

for the victim to evacuate its brain?…

But,

here,

in the hope that the people have emptied their brains –

having presumably sacrificed everything they have ever got to think,

their conscience and consciousness,

their remembering,

heeding those baseless calls to forget,

on the altars of impractical religiosity,

as preached and proclaimed by their incongruous Bishops and Sheiks,

stooges of hegemonic structures in deceptive adoration of some nameless gods –

Their Lord of Lords,

the Emilokan of the land,

regaling in his glory as of the Divine Essence in-itself,

with the said power –

that said power to forgive even ‘the vilest of offenders who truly believe,’ –

to the consternation of saint Satan and some retinue of Holy Daemons,

decreed,

as of the laws of the Medes and the Persians,

the eternal forgiveness of that husband slayer,

those murderers of innocents,

kidnappers and killers,

fraud-‘stars’ and drug lords …

And, isn’t this truly an act of an omnipotent God –

the one who grants pardon,

only on the authority of the confession of the sinners’ faith?

Isn’t this what happens when some faithful criminals in power

violate the sensibility of a few conscientious in the land?

But,

Come friends,

don’t you ever despise this act,

an as of a gracious Lord who forgives the vilest offense…

So, come, let us join together to commend our magnanimous President.

The one who has openly despised the victims in pardoning the criminals…

Oh dear,

let us, in solemn assemblies, sing the praise of this very ignoble act,

to the end of the world.

Let proclaim that in this country of today,

‘Bebe n be, bebe si tun n lo…’
